Warsaw - Part 2 (LIT)

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

I mentioned in an earlier posting that there was a very moving ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Monday of this week.  I was at the tomb earlier in the day before the ceremony began and took a few photos, then I did some more sightseeing before returning to the area of the tomb when I was drawn back to it.  Photos of that ceremony will be at the end of this posting.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is within the only remaining part of a palace which was bombed by the Nazis.

Stalin's "gift" to Warsaw after Soviet troops occupied the city...and country of Poland!

Wreaths to be laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  Each soldier was accompanied by a dignitary or veteran as the wreaths were brought to the tomb.

All of the veterans in the reviewing party knelt to kiss the colors of whatever unit the flag represented.

May their souls rest in peace!
