The Acropolis of Athens, Day 5 - Part 2 (POL)

The Parthenon, Temple of Athena

No, I did not make a quick detour back to Greece.  I have some free time this morning in Warsaw before I leave for the airport.  I need to catch up on the photos I took while I was in Greece.  This posting will be devoted to photos from the Acropolis of Athens.  I hope you enjoy them.  As you can already see, there was a brilliant blue sky which made everything on the Acropolis look even more spectacular.

A partial view of the city of Athens as we trek up the hill to the temples.  More views of the city to follow...

The more white areas are part of the restoration project.

The ruins of a theatre (as we know, it is not an amphitheater because it is only half a stage area) at the base of the Acropolis, below the area of the Parthenon.
Another panoramic view of the city of Athens.

The front of the Parthenon.

How do you put all the pieces together?

Notice the little red flowers?  They were scattered throughout the ruins and on the hillside of the Acropolis.

It is the end of the tour of the Acropolis, as the boys wave good-by and we prepare to board the bus to visit the Museum of the Acropolis.  Our tour guide, Scott Brodeur, SJ, is in his Tilley Hat with Guide Book in hand.  Msgr. Bill Sokolowski is in the center giving a high five!
The modern Museum of the Acropolis
The museum is built on top of ruins which are incorporated into the museum itself through glass floors on the first floor of the museum.

Scott has finally made it to the big time and is recognized as an official tour guide of the museum.  He took great delight in being given an official paddle to lead his group through the museum.  No photos were allowed inside the museum, so as we head through the turnstiles, which you see in the background, I had to check my camera at the cloakroom.
