The Jewish Ghetto (Rome, IT)

He is not quite the fiddler on the roof, but he is playing on a street in the Jewish Ghetto section of Rome, which I explored today.  But before I go there with you, a word about last night.  From our refectory window at 5:05 PM last night, we had a clear view of the helicopter lifting off from the Vatican Gardens with Benedict XVI.  As the bells of St. Peter's Basilica and all of the churches of Rome rang, the helicopter circled the Vatican before flying over the Lateran Basilica of St. John and heading to Castel Gandolfo.  The night could not have been more   still as the light was beginning to fade in warm gentle breezes.   And today, in the language of the church, we are in a state of sede vacante.  [Something for you to google!]

Today was a free day for us so I went on my usual walking tour.  I started at the Palazzo Corsini in Trastevere, crossed the Tiber River to the "Jewish Ghetto,"  and then I explored some picturesque side streets, all of which you will see in the attached photos.  The marble sculptures are from the inner courtyard of the Corsini Museum.  Photos were not allowed to be taken inside the museum.  The first set of photos of flowers is from a street vendor along the Tiber River.  The second set is from a vendor's stall in the Campo di Fiori.
