I walked by St. Peter's Basilica today (as on most days) and, as you can see in the photo, the workmen are preparing the altar area and setting up the chairs for the installation of Pope Francis I, which will occur on Tuesday, 19 March, the feast day of St. Joseph, the patron saint of Italy. I will be there with camera in hand.
Last night and today, I received many emails from friends and colleagues with very thoughtful and warm sentiments about the Pope being a Jesuit. It is thrilling, and I could not be more happy! Thank you again to all those who wrote to honor Francis I and cheering for the fact that he is a Jesuit!
Purely by coincidence, I will be in Assisi for the weekend. It now takes on new meaning, given the choice of names for our new Pope.
If the wireless connection is good in Assisi, I hope to post something on this travel blog each day. If not, then I will return with photos of Assisi, which may be pre-empted if I also have photos from the installation of Pope Francis I. Let's wait and see.
Deserted now, but wait until Tuesday! |
